For the last 2 years I have been teaching private lessons at an elementary school and have been teaching group lessons when asked. During the fall I also have been a low brass technician for a local marching band. Finally I have played in many pit performances for local high schools. These opportunities have taught me a lot about being a teacher and a musician. I first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School where I directed trumpet master classes for high school students.I later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement composition.While earning my Master of Music at the University of the Arts, I served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.Also at UArts, I was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which I conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. I have been a student of local Philadelphia musicians like Eric Apelt, Al Rochlin and Bill Whitaker. I began teaching informally while I was in high school, giving friends and family tips and impromptu lessons on basic musical concepts. This continued to develop as I went to college, forming long-term teaching relationships with a small studio of friends who were eager to learn. I like to be flexible to the students needs and learning style. Ive used many method books often going off what the student is already working on for band or in school. If the student is more advanced I will assign method books such as the Arbans, Clarke, and Charlier books. I also like to incorporate music the student is interested in and wants to learn. Well my teaching style is very conveyed, profound and philosophical. For me it is important to find true focus and happyness in the world and share it with my students. For me i want every kid a teach to become famous musicians or at least feel good about music. I am not strict although i am very direction oriented. Standard repertoire in classical and jazz studies is also covered. Sight-reading, improvisation, and ear-training are also a part of most lessons.
