My lessons are designed to fit each student's level and area of interest. For example, if a student wants to learn how to play blues piano, I'll assign him exercises to compliment learning that idiom, i.e. scales, chords and rhythm patterns. people learn best when they are interested in at that moment. I use the same philosophy teaching drums and trumpet. Specific methods are tailored to the student's current ability and age. Read More

When working with younger children, I use the Children's progressive method for guitar and for the older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method books 1, 2 and 3. As my students progress, I supplement the lesson with songs that my students enjoy and want to learn. I also focus on ear training to help students musically hear what they are playing. Whether it's voice, guitar, ukulele, trumpet or recorder, hearing the music inside and being able to internalize the music is very important to becoming a well rounded musician. Read More

I've loved teaching since I first tried it in high school, when I mentored my own friends in the art of drumming. Since graduating from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Music degree in Studio Music and Jazz / Drum Set Performance, I've also kept busy performing at SXSW, Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot, Treefort, BAMF! and numerous Florida-based festivals. Of course, we look forward to recitals and concerts, because they give our rehearsals direction, but it should also be emphasized that our most rewarding musical experiences may happen in lessons or private practice.
