I'm a very passionate and energetic teacher who loves working with students. I have been a musician for 15 years and teaching for over 10 years. I majored in music as a flautist and learned piano, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings while I was in college. My performance experiences have only strenthened my belief that music should be a part of every person's life. Read More

For brass, woodwind, and percussion students who are in a school band or orchestra, I would use the school's chosen method book in additional to supplemental materials that I would provide, based on the student's interests and needs. For those who are not in band and are just starting, my preferred method for brass and woodwind players is Tradition of Excellence. For intermediate players, I like to use material from the Rubank Intermediate book in addition to more fun material on an individual basis. Read More

I am a Doctor of Chiropractic who has enjoyed music for over 15 years! In college I studied pedagogies (teaching methods) for band, orchestra and majored in vocal and classroom education. Since achieving my degree in teaching kindergarten through 12th grade education, I have worked in Preschool, Elementary, Middle School, and High School settings as well with the elderly. Read More

My philosophy in teaching is that a good understanding of the foundation of music and the instrument will lead to self sufficiency in learning. I aim to teach my students not just to be dependant on myself as the instructor, but to be able to problem solve and learn on their own if they run into a question and an instructor is unavailable. I regularly practice sight reading with my students and keep them critically thinking about their music and what makes it up. Read More

My teaching experience is composed of a combination of all my past professors. I have taken what works and does not work for the last ten years. Mr. Scarlatti taught me about accuracy and technique, Mr. Waidelich, who taught me to understand my musical needs, and Musicality, Mr. Hacker who challenged me in my reading, and performance, and Mr. Almeida who taught me to listen, to be consistent and the best at all I do wether difficult or easy. The most important and fundamental thing you can teach a student about music is that it can always be enjoyable. Music should be enjoyed, by the audience as well as the player. This is key to following through with music, I will always try to find a way to make the exercises I assign fun, or atleast not overly boring or repetitive. Students should be given more than one goal at a time, some of these goals should be very short term, while others should be long term, this instills a sense of confidence, but not a sense of hubris.
