As a musician for over twenty five years, I not only understand music but can demonstrate superior technique. Not only do I have life long experiences and qualifications, I am also a gifted teacher. I care deeply for all my students by understanding each students unique learning style and can adjust lessons accordingly no matter what age. I have played with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Lawton Philharmonic, and the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. In 1992 I had the good fortune to play at Carnegie Hall. I have taught music to all ages in a variety of venues.
I use a Practice based incentive program to develop healthy musical habits. I listen to the goals each student wants to achieve and set up steps to accomplish the goal. While in a lesson I establish basic musicianship, while developing and shaping a performers self image. Warm encouragement and helpful criticism are used to create a safe testing ground to forge and hone new skills.
For beginning students whose primary goal is membership in a school performance ensemble, I will usually choose a beginning band method that give them a good foundation in fundamental playing techniques. As they gain basic skills at this level, I expand the content of lessons to include easy solo repertoire. For older and adult beginning students, I usually use instrumental methods more suited for older learners. In addition, I incorporate easy solo literature for public performance.
I have been teaching in the private setting since the mid-90s, which I began as an undergrad in Music Education. I taught for about a decade in public schools in Kansas, teaching both band and vocal music to students of all ages at various times. I chose to return to school in 2009 and completed two Masters degrees in performance in classical and jazz trumpet over the next four years. Currently, I teach trumpet and jazz improvisation at Southern Nazarene University, Southwestern Christian University, and Rose State College. I also teach jazz band at SNU. As I mentioned above, I focus a great deal on fundamentals, which, once mastered, helps the student master new materials more easily.

Adult students often choose to study jazz or blues once they have mastered the basics, as the trombone can help solidify their love for big band or latin music. The trombone is an instrument which requires dedication, and daily practice is required in order to develop a good tone and love for the instrument.
Beginning-level trombones, known also as student models, are relatively cheap and available through many music shops or instrument catalogs. Some music shops can also provide trombone rentals. Something to look for with a used trombone is to be sure that the instrument can be taken apart and put together easily and is relatively free of dents. Your teacher can also help with the selection of an instrument and all the accessories required to keep it in great condition.
Generally lessons will incorporate the basics of music theory, correct technique, and overall musicianship. No two lessons will be the same, because no two students are the same, and the teachers in our network work with each student to determine the best teaching method and approach so that the student will work to their maximum potential. While teachers will teach the basics, they will also incorporate the individual goals of the student, and work to assure their success!
Children can start trombone lessons in the 3rd grade, or around age 8. They must have enough lung capacity to produce a good tone and have a long enough arms to reach the furthest slide positions. Trombone lessons offer students a real advantage in school music programs and should be thought of as a requirement unless they get enough individual attention from their band director, who may not be as familiar with trombones as private instructors.

I really like her. And as an adult student, a good teacher who keeps the pace up but still keeps it reasonable in terms of difficulty is really hard to find. She does a great job of explaining little detail things in terms I (as a musically challenged human) can understand. I'm having a blast! 10/10 would recommend!

My 4 year old son is quite energetic. Another piano teacher tried to teach him before Peter and could not get my son to listen to him at all. That teacher told me that my son had no interest and that we needed to wait before having my son take lessons. Peter started teaching my son a few weeks later. He quickly developed a great rapport with my son. I was astounded when my son sat down and listened to Peter during the first lesson. Peter has remarkable patience and is a natural working with children. He knows when to follow the child's lead. My son is very interested in how the piano works, so Peter takes the time to teach him about this. He is able to use my son's interests (superheroes, Lego, Star Wars, etc.) to refocus him back to playing the piano. Between lessons, he brainstorms on how he can teach my son better. For example, my son was playing the notes, but not understanding rhythm, so Peter looked into it and came back the next week with a new plan which helped. My son looks forward to his lesson every week. When he hears the doorbell ring on lesson day, he exclaims, "Yay! Peter's here!"

Unbelievably Awesome. My daughter is a beginner and has some special needs. Justin is more than patient and helpful while being completely thorough and pushing her (in a good way) to try harder. He is encouraging and teaches effectively. I am very pleased. More important, so is my daughter. Thank you Musika! So grateful we found your service and connected with Justin. We highly recommend him.

I feel she is a very professional teacher and I have already recommended your company and her to my friends who have children that play musical instruments. My 8 year old son has never been so enthusiastic to play his violin. His skills have improved almost exponentially since we have began lessons with Lauren. Your company has exceeded my expectations and I am very happy to have found it online.

“Lynn has taught my daughter guitar for 9 years. She has always managed to keep her engaged and provide an exceptional learning experience. She tailors the lesson specifically to the student’s interests and abilities. She provides many opportunities for students to showcase their talents outside of lessons. We love working with Lynn.” Maureen Young, Dir. of Finance, Aug 2015

“I took drum lessons from Mark for about 7 months. I have been playing for 38 years but always thrive to learn more. He was able to provide me alternative exercises and help me gain a better understanding of my opportunities. I have been able to take my playing to another level. His approach to teaching is perfect for any level of student, beginner or advanced. He is a true professional and an outstanding person. You won't go wrong with Mark!” Blaine Vaz

I have known Erin since I attended graduate school at the Hartt School in Connecticut. Last year she came to the college I teach at to give a master class and talk about her experiences as a musician abroad. She has proven that she is a capable and wonderful musician and educator. I highly recommend studying with her if you're lucky enough to have the opportunity!

Brett is an accomplished musician, who shared his knowledge at a level that my five year old understands. He is polite and relaxed in his mannerisms but take a serious approach to focusing on the lesson. He is very patient and engaging with the attention span you'd expect from a kindergartener. His motto ever is "sometime you learn faster by going slow"

She is amazing! My daughter, Isabella (7 yrs) is totally engaged in the lesson. Lilly's definitely has a gift with teaching young children!!! A great talent of hers is making the content interesting, current to today's music and most of all fun! She has a knack for taking the material and translating it in a way that is relatable to Isabella. My daughter really enjoys her lesson's and has moved along rather quickly with the material. Thanks Lilly!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
