I tailor my teaching to each student's current ability and level of interest. Every student is different in personality, interest and motivation, and I do my level best to approach each student individually with this in mind. I try to encourage each student to practice regularly to achieve the weekly goals I set at each lesson for the student. I like to learn who my student is before starting anything. I want to know what their interests are and what their view on music is. I then take that and bond with them and teach them in a certain way that matches their thoughts and personalities the best. I like to have fun and not be too strict as long as the student is doing their work, but if they are not staying on track the fun is replaced with more focus on concepts to be sure they are learning what is needed. I typically begin with fundamentals to get an understanding for what areas of a student's playing need to be addressed. I'll try to correct future problems that are usually caused from poor fundamentals. Following this, we'll take a look at Bordogni etudes to see the student's understanding of time and rhythm.
