Teaching Methods: For beginning students whose primary goal is membership in a school performance ensemble, I will usually choose a beginning band method that give them a good foundation in fundamental playing techniques.  As they gain basic skills at this level, I expand the content of lessons to include easy solo repertoire.  For older and adult beginning students, I usually use instrumental methods more suited for older learners.  In addition, I incorporate easy solo literature for public performance.

Teaching Styles: As long as a student truly wants to learn and excel on their instrument, I believe I can help him or her achieve that goal.  Their goal becomes my goal and it gives me great satisfaction to help them gain the musical and instrumental skills they need to reach their goal, whatever that may be.  I consider myself a patient and nurturing teacher who will try various teaching pedagogies to help a student learn the skills necessary to be successful in their instrumental music education.

Teaching Methods: For beginning younger students I begin by working a very short time with parents to assure them their children are in a positive learning environment. Parents of small children are encouraged to attend each lesson with their child. The core principles of musicality, breathing, and perspective are taught. The next step is sound and movement. When these skills are mastered I help students get comfortable with their instruments and then begin playing. Older children just beginning to enter the world of music will begin with the fundamentals of musicianship, sound, and breathing. From there I will progress to rhythm, pitch, and notation. When these skills are mastered I will get the students comfortable with their instruments and begin playing. Students that have a background in music with their instruments will be assessed to determine the level of teaching required. After their skills have been assessed each student will have a plan of action with specific goals to met their target competency. During alls lessons for all age groups I emphasize practice requirements and time management.

Teaching Styles: My teaching style is to motivate students through fun while building a passion for music. I set expectations for each student and make sure they are a better musician today than they were yesterday. I enjoy finding new and exciting methods to teach any student. Nothing is more rewarding to me than helping a student get that important audition, scholarship, or honor. I always determine what inspires my students and coach them to success every time. By using ensembles, district contests, and other competitions I find that students learn at a faster pace.

Teaching Styles: I use a Practice based incentive program to develop healthy musical habits. I listen to the goals each student wants to achieve and set up steps to accomplish the goal. While in a lesson I establish basic musicianship, while developing and shaping a performers self image. Warm encouragement and helpful criticism are used to create a safe testing ground to forge and hone new skills.

Teaching Methods: Students of all ages will work out of a technique/method book. Younger students will use Walter Beeler's Method for Cornet/Trumpet, more advanced students will play from Arban's. I emphasize a "classical" approach, especially with younger students to solidify their skills, encouraging intersted students to begin including jazz improvisation into their studies as their skills advance. We work on tone production, helping the student improve in this area through attention to breathing, embouchure, articulation, long tones, lip flexibilities, scales, etc. I like to have students of all ages working on appropriate solo literature as early as is sensible, and try to encourage all students to perform at any opportunity that is suitable. I also encourage students to broaden their experience by participation in honor bands such as CODA, District and State Bands, and band camps, etc.

Teaching Styles: I tailor my teaching to each student's current ability and level of interest. Every student is different in personality, interest and motivation, and I do my level best to approach each student individually with this in mind. I try to encourage each student to practice regularly to achieve the weekly goals I set at each lesson for the student. I believe helping the student achieve success each week is vital to his development as a musician, for I believe this success will often serve to motivate the student to put in the work necessary to advance his skills, which will ultimately become lead the student to become more self-motivated.
