Instruments: Trombone Euphonium
I have not been teaching lessons for long in my career, but since I grew up in Northeast Ohio and went to school at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, I know the region well. I participated in the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony and the Akron Youth Symphony, so I am familiar with opportunities that are in the area and know how to prepare students for these types of elite ensembles. I have performed in multiple professional ensembles and as a result specialize in orchestral and wind band studies and the technique someone would need to participate in them. Read More

I am an experienced and passionate teacher and performer. I hold my K-12 Music Teaching Certification in Ohio and New Jersey. As a professional vocalist, I have appeared with various orchestras and small opera companies in Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and beyond. I have performed at Severance Hall, Playhouse Square, Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, and Chicago's Harris Theater, but as a student, I never thought that would be the case. My teachers have included some of the finest in the Northeast and Midwest, and I thank them for treating me as an individual with unique needs as a musician. Read More

Allowing me to teach students music and allow those students to grow in their art is a great feeling. I enjoy working one on one, but need students to pay attention in lessons and practice as needed to advance and move forward. I will always work with students on an individualized learning plan but when learning any new skill, it is important to "do your homework". Positive reinforcement is important as well as incentives to reward a student's progress. Read More

My teaching experience has covered various situations, styles, and instruments. During my undergraduate work I taught general music at an elementary school, and did my student teaching as an instrumental teacher in an elementary school, and as a band teacher in a middle school. In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. During my graduate degree I taught students of various levels and ages privately, and also taught the Trumpet Techniques class, where I taught non trumpet playing music education majors the basics of how to play trumpet as well as how to teach it in their future classrooms. Music is intrinsically fun and I feel it's important for my students to have fun while they are learning. Children are intelligent and eager to learn especially when they are encouraged with positive reinforcement. I put a positive spin on everything that happens in their lesson which encourages them to interact with me and develop their musicianship. I tailor lessons to my student's needs and desires giving them challenges without overwhelming them. Read More

I began teaching privately as a high school student, working with begnning students at the middle school. I have taught privately in my home and in students' homes since graduating from college. Regular practice is very important and something I emphasize with my students. I like to include a mixture of classical and modern music in my lessons, so that students enjoy what they are learning and playing. If a student does not enjoy their time playing their instrument, they will not want to put the practice in and lessons will become a point of argument. Read More
