I have experience performing and teaching in a wide variety of settings. While a music student at the University of Iowa, I performed with all three concert bands and two jazz bands as well as playing in orchestral and chamber settings. After graduating from Iowa with a degree in music performance and education, I performed with the Idaho Falls Symphony Orchestra as well as a ska/rock band. Beginning students will start out with technique practices, while introducing solo literature when appropriate. Technique studies can always be improved and studied, no matter a student's age or proficiency. I try to work within the repertoire a student is interested in at first, then expanding to materials and genres the student may find interesting to help broaden the experience and knowledge a student can gain from our lessons. I don't generally start with a single method book, because I believe that in individual lessons, the methods used should be tailored to fit the student. There is a goal per lesson which should be aproached easily to practice. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
