I've played in symphony orchestras as well as concert bands, both amateur and professional. I start lessons by warming up and doing exercises. For children, I do this in a listen and response setting. Then I will work through school songs or performance pieces, focusing on rhythms first, notes second and musicallity third. These 3 aspects lead to musicial mastery. I have been teaching music for 8 years now. My experience includes wind ensembles, jazz orchestras, jazz combos, and chamber groups. I currently hold a position at Chabot Community as the Low Brass Instructor and Jazz Trombone Instructor. I teach all ages ranging from elementary school all the way up to the collegiate level. I currently work for notable organizations such as the Stanford Jazz Workshop where I mentor various junior high to high school aged students who are part of an all-star auction based ensemble. I've been teaching private trumpet lessons since I was in high school. I taught beginner and intermediate elementary and middle school students in my spare time. In college I taught students of all levels, ages, and backgrounds including advanced high school and college students and adult beginners. I always my encourage my students to pick music they like to play alongside the music I assign. The practice routine is a set of 3-5 exercises taken from my library music books that will each touch on an area or skill that the student needs to work on.
