I start beginners out on basic methods books to understand them instrument that they are holding and then slowly ease them into more challenging and sophisticated repertoire, including Rochut Etudes, Kopprasch Exercises, Blazhevich, and Blume. In 1977 I left teaching in schools and devoted my career to church music. I directed choirs and orchestras in several New York/New Jersey area churches for over 40 years. Repertoire wise I believe simple Arban studies and nursery rhymes are all a beginner needs to know to improve their skills. As a student becomes more skilled either Rochut studies or Tyrell's 40 Progressive Studies can really help a student tune their skills. I come from a deep musical heritage and chose the trombone as my main instrument for spiritual reasons. While attending Los Angeles County High School for The Arts, I studied with jazz and trombone legends. Since moving to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, I've been studying with masters from many different disciplines.
