One of my main goals in teaching is to inspire my students, to make them excited about music. I find that the best way to do this is to work on playing music that the student wants to play. That said, there should be a basic interest present. I expect each of my students to have an idea of why they want to play music. Ideally each student should be listening to music and know what he/she likes or dislikes. Read More

I truly enjoy teaching Guitar & Bass as well as all aspects of performing and composing music. I believe that learning to play the Guitar or Bass should be fun and rewarding, and I have developed an exciting, multi-faceted approach to teaching. My method is based on the student getting a feel for the Guitar and Bass (even with limited information), developing confidence and being able to learn on his/her own, making it possible for them to make the decision on what direction to take their music. For beginners, I usually start with the fundamentals of the guitars and it's anatomy. I split my lessons with theory and scales/studies, and then we switch to the students desired repertoire. I like to also add duets and songs or pieces in which me and the student play together, to strengthen the confidence to play with other players. For adults, I start off with basics but move quickly to their desired songs/pieces. Read More

I base all my teaching on all the different private lessons I've received over my 10+ years of playing and learning guitar with very different guitarists/musicians. I started playing when I was 11, but I find that for any beginner, it's important to start with material that gets instant "musical" sound from the guitar. I believe this consists on working on basic chords which you can use to start singing songs, or learning some easy riffs or melodies that will have you playing music in a matter of a few weeks. I have an open approach to teaching guitar, and encourage students to utilize knowledge obtained through my lessons in whatever context they prefer as opposed to gearing them towards a certain style of playing. Much of my own teaching was based in jazz, but I have managed to find myself utilizing much of what I was taught playing in a heavy, shoegazey rock band. The preferences of my students are important to me, and while setting goals for progress is important, it is important to me that students learn at their own pace and move forward on their own initiative. For me, the most vital aspect of teaching involves creating a self-motivated student. I believe that you can do this by teaching music that is of interest to the person you're teaching, and by introducing material that is graded in such a way that it is always a little bit more challenging than what your student is used to (no matter the level they happen to play at). If a student has no reason to practice by themselves, and if a sense of curiosity and desire for exploration and accomplishment haven't been developed, the teaching itself becomes obsolete. Read More

I have been an active drummer and musician in the New York City area since graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2009, where I received my Bachelor's Degree. I am currently undergoing my masters at Queens College as well. My experiences range from performing in monks' homes in Japan, music festivals in South America, club dates all around the USA and Canada, as well as recording sessions and leading workshops in Europe and the Caribbean.
