There is nothing more inspiring and rewarding than watching a student grow. For that reason, I meet students where they are. After an initial assessment of knowledge and skill, I began tailoring lessons for each student individually depending on their skill level. Typical lessons would include a relevant theory mini lesson, teacher playing demonstration, and teacher guided practice. The student is expected to complete independent practice on their own before our next scheduled lesson. Read More

I like to first access the student and their proficiency level. Once I discover your weak points I focus on them and drill them to perfection. Once we have those down. Of course it takes much practice on your part at home alone, then we can move onto actual music and integrating all the skills you learned naturally into harmonious music.--There is no set way to my teaching style because every student is different and must be addressed with their own distinct methods and styles of learning. -I do not teach in the way schools teach their subjects such as history or math. -I learn the student before I can teach the student based off how they live, interact, and learn. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the lesson books you or I provide, preferably Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

Before graduating I did my student teaching in Grambling, La at the laboratory school. This school had students from K - 12 and I had the opportunity to work with all grades. In 2013, I started teaching professionally in Alexandria, La. This is where I learned how to start students on an instrument. Read More

Haven been an educator for over 20 years, I use many methods geared towards student success. I make use of differentiated instruction to maximize student achievement. The main components of my lessons are tone, embouchure development, proper technique, articulation, and better understanding of how instrument works. Materials for lessons are dependent on student level that will include method books, solos, and supplemental music. I encourage students to participate in any outlet that allows them to perform outside of lessons. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my school studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the instruments and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
