I have been helping people find their musical "voice" and learn to play for over 30 years. I am a master of the acoustic guitar, and play rock, funk, Jazz and bluegrass/celtic. I majored in tenor saxophone in college and toured with the A Band.
I am an experienced instrumental music teacher. I have a B.A. and an M.A. in Music Education from the Manhattan School of Music. I have worked as a professional musician and have been teaching music for many years. I played and worked in Tehran, Iran early in my career. I use the software "Finale" to create music for various uses. At my lessons I accompany my students on the piano. I have the ability to teach flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and drums. I believe that playing music is a joy.
Currently, I work as a saxophone instructor teaching beginner saxophone. As a college student, I was employed by the university as an Academic Resource Mentor. This position was similar to that of a Resident Assistant in that I worked within the residence halls. However, my main responsibity was to maintain the academic well being of my residents. This included running group workshops and educational programs, keeping a watch for any students in need of academic help, and giving extra help in a variety of subjects, including music.
I have played many diverse styles over the years. In addition to being well known in the world of classical saxophone, where I have worked with and studied with several world famous players, I have always enjoyed playing in jazz ensembles and playing clarinet in both chamber music and symphony orchestra settings. Music has given me the opportunity to tour to a dozen countries and perform in some of the world's great concert halls, from Carnegie Hall to Lincoln Center in New York to halls in London, Moscow, Kiev, and Tokyo. I perform regularly with the Sound Beach Community Band and the Westchester Symphonic Winds. I have made professional appearances with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, the Fontenay Chamber Players, the Norm Hathaway Jazz Orchestra, and Music On The Hill. While studying at Interlochen, I performed with the World Youth Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble.
I love seeing a student gain an understanding of a concpet that had been challenging. In order to accomplish this "aha" moment, I try to learn how the student learns best (visual aids, explainations, listening examples) and use that to help the student. I use popular songs that the student knows to explain concpts that can be challenging. I use stickers for younger students to help mark progress and practice journals for older students to help see how much was accomplished. I never teach two students the same and tailor all my lessons to the student's needs and ability.

Each lesson is personalized to the student. The teacher will concentrate on the needs and goals of the individual. However, some topics will always be covered such as: how to clean, put together the instrument, hold the saxophone, develop embouchure, hand placement, and musical comprehension!
The saxophone is a wonderful instrument to begin in elementary or middle school. Young saxophonists are able to progress quickly and many schools have jazz programs that feature the sax. Typically, Musika recommends waiting until age 8 before beginning sax lessons.
Saxophone students typically begin on alto sax. Yamaha, Selmer, and Jupiter are good brands to start. For reeds we would recommend a 1.5 or 2 thickness. Reeds will need to be replaced regularly. As the player becomes more comfortable he or she may switch to reed with a greater thickness or 3 or 4. For this reason, Musika recommends consulting the teacher before buying reeds in bulk.
Saxophone can be an extremely satisfying instrument to study at any age. Most adults, even without experience, find they are able to progress quickly with consistent instruction and focused practice. The saxophone is great instrument for solo playing or in a group setting.

My 4-year-old has had several lessons with Martina now, and he has learned a lot. Obviously, it is challenging to teach such a young child, and he has learned quite a lot in a short time, and is very excited to learn about violin and for his lessons. I think Martina is doing an excellent job, is quite patient, and is teaching him in such a way that he can really remember his new skills from week to week. We look forward to many more lessons with Ms. Martina!

Dr. Nedra C is incredible. She knows her craft in and out, it truly shows in her teaching. As well, she cares a great deal about the student, and preps plenty of material outside of the lesson for those that she teaches. I've had many different music teachers and am aware who's talented and cares, and who isn't. Dr. Nedra C is true phenomenal, and any student would be lucky to have her.

My 4 year old son is quite energetic. Another piano teacher tried to teach him before Peter and could not get my son to listen to him at all. That teacher told me that my son had no interest and that we needed to wait before having my son take lessons. Peter started teaching my son a few weeks later. He quickly developed a great rapport with my son. I was astounded when my son sat down and listened to Peter during the first lesson. Peter has remarkable patience and is a natural working with children. He knows when to follow the child's lead. My son is very interested in how the piano works, so Peter takes the time to teach him about this. He is able to use my son's interests (superheroes, Lego, Star Wars, etc.) to refocus him back to playing the piano. Between lessons, he brainstorms on how he can teach my son better. For example, my son was playing the notes, but not understanding rhythm, so Peter looked into it and came back the next week with a new plan which helped. My son looks forward to his lesson every week. When he hears the doorbell ring on lesson day, he exclaims, "Yay! Peter's here!"
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
