Musical education should be as exciting as it is rewarding. I believe firmly that building a solid foundation in ear training, rhythmic consistency and theoretical knowledge is the surest way to motivate the type of practice that leads to improvement. My aim is always to make students self-sufficient in discovering, analyzing, performing and writing the music that they find most interesting. My students know that lessons with me are the best time to make their worst mistakes, and to achieve their greatest successes and that theyre free to smile the entire time. Read More

I have been studying music for 25+ years, and I still study music on a daily basis. I play piano, flute, guitar, ukulele, sing, dance, and act. I am very passionate about teaching music and finding the life lessons that music has to offer for each student. I am a very exacting and precise teacher who requires the best from my students, yet I am extremely kind, positive, encouraging, and understanding. Read More

A passionate student is a happy student, so I take special care to ensure that each student develops at their own pace. I like to encourage students to set goals for themselves to get an idea of where they think they are musically, and help them to tailor these goals into small and accomplish tasks. I also think it is extremely important to praise students for working on their material, as this helps encourage them to try even harder and push their boundaries. Read More

Each student has his/her own individual needs. In general though I focus on 3 key elements: 1) Sound quality 2) Technical dexterity (how the fingers deal with the twists and turns of the instrument) 3) Reading Music If a student has a specific genre of music that he/she wants to focus on then I mainly concentrate on that. I begin my teaching by gauging the student's current ability; once it has been recognised, I then inquire about what it is the student wishes to accomplish under my tutelage. I weed out any early misgivings by trying to get the student to settle for realistic goals. Aiming too high can often overwhelm individuals, and it is a mistake I like to avoid in my teaching, especially in a field as emotionally demanding as music. Read More

The majority of my teaching experience dates back to high school. I had two great cello students during my senior year playing cello and are still involved in the arts. My hope is to find students that are serious about making technical advancements on their instruments as well as having a deeper understanding of harmony and the connections between all genres of music. Robert G. is a Dallas-born saxophonist and composer. Read More
