For most students, I use the Rubank Method books as a foundation for basic fundamentals of the instrument. I use Jamey Aebersold's books as a foundation for jazz and popular music when students are ready. After that, I like giving my students individual work that is tailored to their needs like solos, jazz tunes, and more. I also challenge my students to take control of their learning by being resourceful. Read More

I've been interested in music ever since I was little and have been playing music with various instruments since I was in the 5th grade. I focused on saxophone when I was in junior high and continued through high school. It was my first passion even when going off to college. I went to school for Audio Production to learn another set of skills that has served me since 2005. My love of saxophone has been influential in my taste in music and would love to teach others the fundamentals and help them progress. Read More

For students who are already in an instrumental program through school, I will start with whatever method book they are using at school, and branch off from there. Depending on the instrument, I will bring in another method book specific to that instrument book and we will also use some sort of etude book. The etudes may be classical in nature or more modern music. For older students, I will help them prepare Solo and Ensemble pieces as well. Read More

I'm a motivated instructor of both clarinet and saxophone. I have been teaching full time for the past 22 years working with different schools and studios. I currently teach both saxophone and clarinet in a nearby public school during the day. Students have the option of taking lessons during the school day instead of after school. I enjoy playing in area ensembles and have worked with the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony as a woodwind coach for the past 6 years, I hold both a bachelor of music education and early childhood degrees. As a teacher in public and charter schools, I have directed choruses, small chamber ensembles, orchestras, and musical theater. I started teaching music lessons during college, where I excelled as a trombonist. Although I remain a brass teacher, I "made the switch" to singing in 2005. In 2006 I was accepted to graduate school for singing and historical musicology. I have had the opportunity to perform with some of the finest conductors and ensembles in the nation, and I bring my professional experiences into the classroom and the studio. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically teach the book that they use in band class. If they/the parents would prefer a specific book or are not in band, I typically use Standard of Excellence, the red book and then progress to the blue book. Once the student understands the fundamentals and has progressed, I then begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I learn of what the student is interested in and then I guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter the ability. Read More
