I was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and have recently moved to Chicago after being previously based out of Boston and Cincinnati. As a starting musician, I personally would go with the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements 2000. It is a great way to start the student because the book breaks how to learn how music in appropriate steps. As someone who is in junior high leading into high school, I love to use scales, smooth air movement, flexibility for band, scale fluency, chromatic scales, improve exercise, and performing tip exercises. Although I am not limited to one method book or another, I typically use Arban's for trumpet lessons - with other books and repertoire along with it. My background is Suzuki violin, followed by music literacy and transposition.
