My preferred method of teaching for beginner students is my own adaptation of the Thompson method with strong emphasis on theory and technique. A study of intervalic relationships, chords and progressions combined with terminology, sight reading, ear training and form will provide the student with skills which will allow them to play any style and genre of music they desire. Although the Suzuki method seems to be popular today, I have discovered many short comings of this pedagogical approach and often renders a good pianist limited in their capabilities as a well rounded musician. I'm a passionate and engaging music instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I've been teaching guitar, as well as beginner, piano and bass guitar lessons to students of all ages and skill levels for over a decade. I try to focus on teaching my students proper technique, knowledge of music theory, improvisation, and reading and writing skills. I like to give students the tools required to follow their own musical aspirations. Read More

Nothing brings me more joy than seeing someone accomplish their goals, especially when its something as special as music. Setting goals and tackling them step by step plays a huge role in learning anything, and piano is no different. Working with novice piano students, I usually employ traditional method materials like Bastien or Thompson if the student is a child, and Alfred for adults. Though it is rare, and usually at the insistence of a parent, I can also use these methods with beginning guitar students. For advanced students, whose aim is to broaden an already substantial aquaintance with theoretical and compositonal studies, I use the "Guitar Grimoire" series by Adam Kadman. Read More

As I taught private piano students, I constructed my lesson plans very carefully with clear objectives and goals. I try to provide every student with rich experience, while applying different teaching methods to each individual according to their learning styles, abilities, personality and cultural background. As for group piano classes, many students were not piano players; compared to my private students who were very high level, I taught fundamental piano skills for these non-piano major music students classes, which were in fact difficult. For beginning students, I always start by learning the notes on the staff that corresponds with their specific instrument. Knowledge and confidence of this is crucial to the learning process. Next, I pick a method book to work through to learn the fundamentals. For trombone, I use Rubank's "Elementary Method." It is a great progressive studies that has great explanations, exercises, etudes, duets, mini-solos, scales studies, and more for young students. Read More
