For beginners, which is mainly what I've taught so far, I try and see what their goals are and teach them accordingly. Both students I've taught have had entirely different goals, one just trying to learn drumset and the other wanting to learn a song for his talent show. The first, I taught using my own books that I have learned from, and the second I taught by just going through the song slowly, taking it apart, and learning it section by section. Read More

It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Other superior and first division honors include those from the Humble Invitational, Pride of Texas and Soundwaves music festivals. Read More

For my novice students I will use the John W. Schaum piano course. We will begin with scales and arpeggios. Once these students have grasped the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire appropriate for their first solo recital. My goal is to instill in them an appreciation for the classical music of the 18th and 19th century such as that of the Three Bs (Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms). Read More

For teens and adult beginners (age 11 and up), I use the books specially complied for older beginners then progress to level three or above. I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun for the appropriate level(s). I like Mayron Cole piano method because it provide solid progression for rhythm counting, systematic build up for sight reading as well as introducing key concepts in music theory/history/genre.
