I believe my role as a teacher is to help students improve their musical abilities in a holistic manner. This means in addition to talking about technique, we will discuss theory and history related to the instrument and repertoire (depending on level of the student) as well as healthy and productive practice habits. I will help students to set realistic weekly goals so each student is improving consistently and feeling satisfied with his/her accomplishments each week. Read More

I had two girls who loved to act and really wanted to be in the musical but had never sung a note. We worked every day after school for two weeks before auditions. I ended up casting them as Cinderella's Stepsisters. Their song was nominated for a Jester Award (astate-wide theatre awards program for Kansas High Schools) forBest Production Number. Their reaction when they heard was priceless. I enjoy getting to know my students and understand how their brains work. Read More

With these positions, I was able to tutor peers and work on expanding my knowledge of teaching music. Once I graduated, I continued to be employed as the clarinet technician for the marching band at my high school for the next 4 years. Read More
