I began teaching violin a year after the Covid pandemic when I pivoted to in college. I originally was pursuing a conducting degree so I could work with more musicians and performers. This was derailed due to Covid however because group settings had tight restrictions. I originally was working as a rehearsal director for a production of "Firebringer" on my school's campus and the acapella group, "The Orcapelicans". I've been giving lessons for 3 years now and I've taught primarily beginners. Read More

I always try to make our lessons less like a lecture and more like a jam session. When analyzing a piece of music, I strive to relay the importance of knowing exactly what you're playing. Through this, the student gains a deeper appreciate for the piece and music in general, as opposed to just cycling through a chord progression. Most lessons consist of 1/3 technique and scales, and 2/3 repertoire. I always make sure to ask the students about what they like to listen to most because that will dictate which songs we learn during our lessons to make it more fun and relatable for them. Read More

Instruments: Piano Music

I try to build upon what the students goal is while training them to practice consciously and with a purpose not just playing the music over and over and accomplishing nothing. I try to engage the student aurally and not only from the method book alone. This method encourages to make decisions on their own without being instructed to do so. Each lesson I like the student to bring a notebook to take notes. Read More

I believe in acquiring a global understanding through a multiplicity of styles. Jazz and classical are my points of departure and then I incorporate different material as you develop your skills. I have several method books that I use including "Mastering Piano Technique", "Manual of Scales and Arpeggios", "The Jazz Theory Book" and "Harmony and Theory" by Keith Wyatt to name a few. For vocalists, I develop your sound to a point where we can do a full basic assessment of skills that we can build off of so we have a clear direction of where we are going. Read More

For all students, regardless of age or skill level, I like to gauge their musical interests (i.e., what music they listen to, what inspired them to pick up the guitar, etc.), and then work from there. For someone who has never picked up an instrument before, I generally work out of Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Book 1. Once we're past that, I'll start showing them some basic songs, as well as seeing what kinds of songs they would be interested in learning. Read More
