My ultimate goal as a teacher is to create independent musicians capable of creative thinking and musicality long after they have left my studio. While reading the notes and rhythms is obviously important, understanding why those notes, rhythms or markings are in the music will help students develop and learn musicianship skills that are often overlooked. I am a unique teacher who realizes that not every student is the same, or wants to learn the same type of music in the same way. I almost consider myself more of a COACH than a teacher. Yes, I do teach, and I am classically trained. For Piano students, I like using the Royal Conservatory Methods, some Faber books, and implement Jazz Studies, Classical Training, Scales, Arpeggios and Chord Progressions. As they become proficient in chords, then I teach improvisation skills, and Ear Training. For Vocal Students, I teach Extensive Sight-reading using the Kodaly Method, Vocal Technique, Ear training, and Genres which include, Musical Theatre, Classical, Folk Songs, Disney, Jazz, some Pop. Originating from East Chicago, IN, I've known since 3rd grade that I wanted to build a career in music. Over the years I've been able to find my niche, and focus on engineering, composing, and playing live. I've recently come to really enjoy teaching.
