I studied composition at Haverford College, where I led a number of vocal ensembles and music directed several musical theater productions. I began playing piano for church choirs in my hometown. During my college years, my private lessons experience began when I would give pointers to my fellow music majors who had to pass piano proficiency as part of their degree requirement. Furthermore, I am from the school of thought of concentrated practice. I help students identify the length of time they can concentrate without exhausting their attention. My general course of action for students is to teach the essentials through the Faber book series. As well as learn songs and do theory/aural exercises from the Faber books, I like to use online music theory games for my students to practice skills like note identification. I also like to assign students songs outside from the Faber books that they know and love, to further fuel their passion for learning piano! Read More

I approach teaching first and foremost from a mindset of love for music. I try to encourage the same passion for music in my students that I have myself. I believe in the importance of music in our society and in our lives and aim to relay that in my lessons. I teach a relaxed, free style. I want my students to feel comfortable to move around the room. Our work in the studio is experimental. I am happy with whatever progress we make each week, as long as there is some progression. I particularly emphasize this point with my youngest voice students. All progression is a victory.
