I started teaching music lessons back when I was 14, when friends would ask for tips or lessons, and local parents wanted lessons for their children. I fell in love with the act of helping others to realize the music inside them, and have been teaching consistently ever since. Learning any musical instrument involves learning about oneself. The student and teacher must work together to define their goals, be comfortable confronting shortcomings, discover how they learn best, and find the patience and drive to practice for long enough to get better. I typically create my own lesson plans and try to cater them to the student. Most recently I've been working with trying to find a balance of teaching music theory and practical piano. When teaching theory, I often refer to Kotska's and Payne's "Tonal Harmony" for the order of the curriculum, and when it comes to exercises I will either write them out on the spot to demonstrate something to the student (I also feel it is important to SHOW the student how to MAKE music, ie. proper note notation, and symbol shape), or prepare them in advance if the content is more complex. I am devoted and motivated instructor who loves working with students of all ages and background. After graduating from Boston Conservatory in 1991, I attained MM from Juilliard in 1993; and, in 2010, I earned a Ph.D. in music from NYU. As a composer-pianist, I performed in Japan and the throughout the US, including a debut performance in Carnegie Hall. As an experienced chamber player, I worked with singer Jacqueline Horner (member of Anonymous 4), Malena Dayen, and many noted musicians. Read More

I emphasize both notes and rhythms in my teaching, and for both notes and rhythms, I strongly believe in the importance of being able to not only read them, but hear and feel them as well. These aural skills are an immense part of accelerating a student's development, helping them learn and memorize music quickly, familiarizing them with music theory, and creating a close personal relationship between themselves and their musical studies. I've been teaching children at different ages and in different scenarios, if it was musical theater or middle school children preparing for their prom. I also played extensively in Israel's most famous acting college, where I gained the ability to guide actors towards a more polished and honest interpretation. I also taught older people and found that to be a very rewarding experience. Many people report that I explain difficult concepts very well and have a way with teaching, which is great because I enjoy teaching tremendously. Read More

Piano: For adults, I mix many methods together to see which one works well with the student, and make sure to know which songs they really want to play so I write it down for them according to tp their level. For young kids usually, I go between piano adventures and TRC, also I write for them the songs that they really want to play. Singing: I make sure we go with the style of songs they like and go from there to the singing techniques plus I try to add some solfege and ear training. always try to make it fun Read More
