I discovered my musical interests and performance abilities through private piano lessons, dance classes, private voice lessons, and musical theatre acting workshops. I also studied symphonic band, musical theater, and jazz throughout high school while learning improvisational skills as a church pianist. I've had the opportunity to play with other musicians in band and studio settings; my particular favorite project was with a violinist who had performed in Carnegie Hall. Being a teacher is by far one of the most rewarding choices that I have ever made. Seeing a students growth and development is absolutely astounding. I believe that each student is very individualized, and no student learns exactly the same as another. As a teacher, I believe that I need to constantly be adaptable and adjustable to each student's needs. I excel at taking the most self-motivated students to the highest level, and I don't hold anyone back in order to stay with a pre-determined method. All students learn to count the beat in a FUN and entertaining way. I save the last few minutes of every lesson for "musical games", which are usually ear training. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
