Born in Los Angeles, Andy started playing piano at age five and by age thirteen, he was studying the viola as well. He played in his schools string orchestra, the Conejo Youth Symphony, and was awarded the opportunity to perform at the Music Teacher's Association convention in Sacramento. I have performed in venues in the Houston area for different organizations, including the Lake Houston Chamber of Commerce and the Porter Rotary Club, as well as in the KHMTA Piano Tournaments and for the National Piano Guild. I discovered my love for teaching piano while teaching at the SFA Music Preparatory Division in Nacogdoches, and have since taught all over Houston. I like to get an idea from the student and the parent what their expectations are for music lessons. From there, the student and I come up with musical goals to accomplish for that year. We create a practice schedule based on the student's school and extracurricular activities and try to follow that schedule as much as possible. I also like to incorporate other styles of music such as popular Broadway pieces and Contemporary pieces into the student's repertoire so that they can have greater diversity in their piano playing or singing. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my school studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument.
