For beginning students (regardless of age instrument) I try to simplify the approach and work on a set of warm ups/exercises coupled with a performance piece or song that they can feel good about and lots of fun listening assignments. From there I have a few options of instruction methods that I tailor to the individual student. I do my best to break it balanced; however, I strive to make the environment as fun and warm and welcoming as they would like. I pride myself on leaving every child eager to learn more! With the older beginners (middle school and high school), I keep in mind their personalities and methods of learning and processing the material, so the lesson is still warm, but more balanced in nature.
