Overview:

I'm a passionate and dedicated violin teacher with over 19 years of experience (and counting!) I first found my love of violin at the age of 3 and have been expanding my craft ever since, In my early years, i studied under Rice University professor, Sylvia Owelette, and with her gained a deep understanding and appreciation for the fundamentals of music. I first created my foundation with the cult classic Suzuki books and eventually grew to complex solo, ensemble work, and also performance at Jones Hall. Along side this in my junior years i also participated in multiple state competitions placing first in solo and theory work, as well as first chair in chamber orchestras and even once joined my symphonic orchestra in preforming at Carnegie Hall. As an adult i studied with Dominika Dancewich at the University of St. Thomas for a duration of 5 years where i furthered the education of my instrument. During which i was a part of the St. Thomas Quartet where i had the opportunity to preform regularly. I began to find a love of teaching alongside all my years playing, i started by simply teaching a few classmates but by the age of 19 i had quickly branched out to over 20 students. Over the course of the next few years my students (of all ages and levels) saw a improvement in theory, performance, technique, and most importantly, their love of music. I strongly believe in the importance and power of music and have enjoyed inspiring others to find this as well. i strive to motivate and make my lessons a good time while creating a safe space for my students to grow and cultivate their technical skills to the best of their ability. I am also a lover and teacher of piano as well, during my studies of violin, my understanding of piano always played a crucial role in my development, and i began to study it deeper alongside. My love for the instrument is deep and like with violin i strive to develop the passion and understanding of it for others as well.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching began simply by teaching fellow classmates in my school years but at the end of high school i quickly began to branch out to other students. By 19 i had about 20 students from the age of 5 all the way to age 45, from beginner to advanced levels. My Goal is to create a fun, and safe lesson environment where my students feel motivated to cultivate and grow their love and understanding of music, theory, technique, and performance skills. I'm always looking to bring anyone who's interested aboard !

METHODS USED

For beginner students, i typically like to work with the tried and true Suzuki books, as well as theory practice with Essential Elements for violin, and the Faber books for pianists. I will begin to introduce solo work as skills build, but we will always be working on something that the student genuinely is interested in. For adults/ intermediate or advanced students i try to find what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons fun and engaging while also slightly challenging to further understanding of technical abilities.

LESSON STYLE

I began teaching because to me, nothing is more beautiful than watching someone's love for music bloom in front of me, to allow someone to find a vessel through music. Therefor, it's important to me that each student goes at their own pace, and strive to tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. It's important to me that in each lesson we cover 3 important sections, theory, performance, and technique. This allows my lessons to flow without feeling like we're stuck working on one thing the whole time and creates a fun, inclusive learning experience.
