For beginning students, I like to start with some starting note learning drills on paper or going through some beginner books. I am a firm believer in that the more a student practices reading music, the easier it will come. I realize that some students learn music better by ear, and I will work to develop that skill alongside the essentials of reading the music on paper. As they progress, I hope to introduce different kinds of solo music in order to teach different skills and techniques that are involved, while still keeping the music fun and accomplishing the goals that the student wants to accomplish. I believe in individualized learning. So each student will receive their own plan for their progression. Some materials I recommend for students are the rubank book for beginner. It is very important for students to grasp the fundamentals. For intermediate students, we would progress on a track and focus on what they had for goals. For advanced students we could use anything from method books to cds to ear training and transposition to bring out the best in the learner. Read More

I think that is very important that the students enjoy playing their instrument. To achieve that, it is important that each student progresses at their own pace. Using their strengths and helping them get better at their weaknesses is one of my main goals as a teacher. I try to find what inspires them to keep the lessons interesting and fun. I always try to help them grow by challenging them but by also setting realistic goals. Read More

I began teaching private piano lessons when I was a junior in college. I taught all ages including children, teenagers, and adults. I encourage consistent and regular practicing with my students because that is how one succeeds at playing an instrument. I teach students based on their own individual development and pace, but I do push them so that they can improve and become better musicians. I always schedule a recital at the end of the semester and encourage students to perform in festivals and competitions so that they have opportunities to perform. Read More

One of the best things in the world is to see a student struggle with the material for a little while on to discover that they can actually play what I am asking them to play. To see the student start seeing their talent, to see how far they have come and their love for music. It is one of the best feelings to see this change. By seeing what drives the student and through encouragement, I try to show each and every student that anything in music is possible. Read More

For beginning students, I use the first Essential Element book to introduce the first instrument and theory concepts. Once students have progressed past this book, I use the Tune a Day series along with the accompanying scale book. This book introduces students to solo and duet pieces worthy of a recital performance. Once they have reached the third book and are progressing through etudes, students begin working on individual solo repertoire pieces. Read More
