I have taught private one on one lessons to children ranging from first grade, to seniors in their 70's and 80's. I have tremendous patience, and an ability to make every lesson a positive learning experience, which will have the student running home to their instrument to practice, and share in my love of music. I have also taught general music in groups of 15-20 students from Kindergarten to 8th grade for three years, as well as another three years at the American School of El Salvador as band and combo professor. For beginning students who are children, I like to start with a book filled with colors and pictures and that contains solos and theory. I beileve this captures their attention and can also help them relate it to something that, to them, is fun. I primarily like to use Alfred's Basic Piano Library book which continues in sequence. This allows students to easily flow from one book to another as they progress. Read More

For any beginner musician, I find it is very important to have a general idea of the most basic level of theory. A student should know how the notes relate to each other and why. Strict rules and "know-how" are important, but music is expressive and creative. If you want to build a bridge, you should build your bridge to be the unique image you choose; however, you need to know which tools to use to get started. Read More

Most of my lesson plans are customized for each student, depending the style they are interested in, and the level that they are already playing. Generally speaking for beginners, I begin with teaching about the instrument (string names, frets, tuning, etc.). Then we move on to chords, starting with the easiest ones to play. Once they have grasped how the instrument and chords work, we continue on to melodies and simple 3 chord songs. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Violin
For beginning students, I usually start with Piano Adventures curriculum, starting with just the lesson book. Around level two we will add the theory book and if the student shows an eagerness for more songs, the performance book as well. Around level four I will also add the technique and artistry book. Along the way, if a student requests a certain song or brings their own music book, we will also learn those songs. Read More
