Most of my lesson plans are customized for each student, depending the style they are interested in, and the level that they are already playing. Generally speaking for beginners, I begin with teaching about the instrument (string names, frets, tuning, etc.). Then we move on to chords, starting with the easiest ones to play. Once they have grasped how the instrument and chords work, we continue on to melodies and simple 3 chord songs. Read More

This experience really helped me to hone my music teaching skills. A year later, I joined the choir at a small church in Fort Stewart, GA and I began to teach soprano, alto and tenor parts in our rehearsals. As I continued to teach in choir, I soon realized that learning about the keyboard would assist me in teaching vocals better so I began to teach myself the basics. Around that same time frame, I made a promise to God that if He showed me how to play the piano/keyboard, I would be faithful to teach others as well. Read More

For any beginner musician, I find it is very important to have a general idea of the most basic level of theory. A student should know how the notes relate to each other and why. Strict rules and "know-how" are important, but music is expressive and creative. If you want to build a bridge, you should build your bridge to be the unique image you choose; however, you need to know which tools to use to get started. Read More

My teaching experience started 7yrs ago doing part time lessons at church. I started teaching members of the church as well as musicians who wanted to learn certain songs. During those times of lessons, I encouraged each student to consistently practice at least 30min a day. I also tried to relate each lesson to a song of their choice to show them certain ways to apply basic theory. I'm determined to make each lesson a memorable experience that the student will have fun and be able to go home with excitement. Read More
