I have been in love with music for as long as I can remember. It is an honor to be able to inspire, and help grow, students in their adventures in music like my previous teachers inspired, and helped me grow, in my love of music. I graduated from Judson College as a double major in Music and Religion. I have given a recital that included great composers like J.S. Read More

For all of my beginning students, I use the method book Piano Safari because it teaches them reading music, playing music by rote, and technique all in one. There is a child version and an older beginner version. For students who are not beginners, I find them solo pieces that are suitable for them that they enjoy so that their playing will progress. For each lesson, I take the time to make a lesson plan. Read More

I taught my first lesson 5 years ago when I was an under graduate. I began teaching guitar to the public part time at age 19 in the music department of my community college. Ironically enough, some of the best lessons I ever learned in music school weren't even how to play, it was how to teach. Read More

My passion for teaching stringed instruments has brought me to work with students from the ages of 6 to 23 during my college career. I have also spent many semesters tutoring Music Theory to my peers. I work to create a supportive environment for my students that help them to grow as musicians technically and expressively. I encourage practicing for all my students, assigning practicing requirements that will challenge students but I know are accomplishable in the week between lessons. Read More

I listen to students play in order to assess their level. I then formulate a strategy for improvement. I log all lessons into a database so that students can reflect backand gauge progress. This approach ensures that both student and instructor are accountable with the tasks assigned. Read More

I believe in individualized learning. So each student will receive their own plan for their progression. Some materials I recommend for students are the rubank book for beginner. It is very important for students to grasp the fundamentals. For intermediate students, we would progress on a track and focus on what they had for goals. For advanced students we could use anything from method books to cds to ear training and transposition to bring out the best in the learner. Read More

For younger students who are children, I usually start with Faber Piano Adventures. Once the student has worked in fundamentals and get a better understanding of the instrument, I will begin introducing solo repertoire appropriate for his or her level. I also like to working on scales and sight reading with my students, I spend some time at the beginning of the lesson helping them get a solid grasp on these two elements. Read More
