After completing my BA in public relations I was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of Arkansas to teach the basic speech requirement. I became pregnant and did not complete my MA but began teaching private piano lessons part time while raising my children. As the needs of my family changed I began working with children in other ways such as coaching ball teams. I graduated in 2011 from SMU with my music degree in Trumpet Performance, and have been teaching privately in the Dallas area ever since. Although while at SMU my focus was mainly on orchestral playing and classical techniques, I am equally comfortable playing jazz and commercial styles, and honestly probably play those styles just as much as I do orchestral work now. I have served in twelve different churches over the years as a Minister of Music, and am still serving in that capacity. I have performed in music ensembles since childhood. As an elementary school student I performed in regionally recognized handbell, soprano recorder, and choir ensembles and I am a strong advocate of these types of ensembles at the elementary level. As a middle and high school student I participated in jazz, concert, symphonic, and marching band. While attending Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia I participated in Orchestra (trumpet), Glee Club, and Jazz Band (piano) and have extensive experience performing in symphonic and concert ensembles ensembles.
