Students will always be encouraged to learn more scales, more octaves, and the full range chromatic scale. All students are encouraged to learn a solo appropriate to their playing level. We will also prepare excerpts for various auditions like the Lone Star Youth Orchestra, etc, if students are interested in that. Read More

I teach music, not just instruments. I try to develop a broad appreciation for music that will stay with my students wherever they go in life. I take an individualized approach based on learning styles and strengths. I believe in positive reinforcement, especially with younger students! I also take into account preferences for music styles and attempt to use repertoire that not only broadens their experience, but keeps students focused and interested. Read More
Instruments: Piano Acoustic Guitar
I have been involved in music for as long as I can remember, singing in church choirs and leading contemporary worship. I graduated from McMurry University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance in 2004. Having decided that performing was not my #1 passion I then pursued a Masters of Music degree, specializing in Music Therapy, from Colorado State Univeristy. I have been a professional music therapist for the past 9 years, working with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities as well as mental health populations. Read More

For beginning students I have a number of books, resources and methods that I utilize in order to keep the lesson engaging and enjoyable. For more advanced students, I typically have a lesson plan or a direction that I want to go after assessing strengths and weaknesses. For all of my students, I always ensure that we are learning and practicing music and concepts that they find enjoyable and is headed in a direction that they want to go, all the while still challenging them of course. Instruments: Piano
My students say I am their "most fun teacher," which is what I like to hear! Weekly music lessons shouldn't be a fearful experience; they should be something to enjoy and look forward to. The fact is learning to play the piano is not a 30-minutes-a-week or even a 1-hour-a-week experience. Learning to play the piano is a daily habit that must be cultivated. To that end,I keep my expectations for my students clear and attainable so that they know what to do in order to be successful. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Tuba
I earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in 2008 and 2009 in Euphonium Performance and Music Education from the University of North Texas while studying with the renowned Dr. Brian Bowman. While there, I advanced to the final round of a United States Navy Band audition. From 2010-2019, I served as a band director in three different school districts in Texas; now I teach private lessons full-time in the North Dallas area. I love nothing more than opening students' eyes to the riches and depth of musicianship. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice
As a teacher my goal is not to simply teach a student how to play or sing a certain song. My goal is to teach my students how to use the discipline of music to help them to develop their character. To that end I emphasize learning music fundamentals well and being able to put them into practice playing or singing in public at every opportunity. I also believe that playing with other musicians helps students to solidify their skills so I encourage them to play in an ensemble at every opportunity. Read More
