I've been teaching since 2006 at Baldwin - Wallace College, where I became an Adjunct Lecturer in Piano by the recommendation of the piano pedagogy faculty in 2007.  When in town, I've been teaching students primarily from ages 5-25, in traditional repertory and to help other older musicians hone specific skills.  I've taught students who have played in recitals, church services; including students who composed music that appeared in the Cannes International Film Festival, and students who wished to only play privately.  I pride myself in my strong technique which I credit to my background with the Cleveland Institute of Music, which is one of the biggest benefits that my students quickly take on.  I specialize in teaching classical music, and I also teach basic jazz and pop improvisation, to all ages. For the youngest beginners, my focus is on the enjoyment of music. Using either The Music Tree or My First Piano Adventures, I teach children about the elements of music and how to appreciate music, before going into actual technical work on the piano. I primarily teach with The Music Tree (Frances Clark's method) and supplement with pieces from other method books, and prepare children for recitals and performances in the future. Read More

I  have taught students individually and in sectionals and drumlines, allowing me to gain experience in the instruction of both classical and popular music styles. Every student needs to be approached differently. I take every student at their pace knowing that students can be burned out if they progress too quickly or become bored if they arent challenged. Modern middle and high schoolers can be very busy and it is not productive to give them too much than they can handle. I see it as one of my primary responsibilities to keep the student engaged, focused, and motivated. Read More

For example, if a child is beginning on the instrument for the first time and looking to play in the school music programs, I will start with a few different method books and focus on technique (while incorporating various puzzles and games of course!) On the other hand, there may be someone who has previously played and may just be looking to learn some of their favorite songs.
