Instruments: Trombone Euphonium
Every student needs to be approached differently. I take every student at their pace knowing that students can be burned out if they progress too quickly or become bored if they arent challenged. Modern middle and high schoolers can be very busy and it is not productive to give them too much than they can handle. I see it as one of my primary responsibilities to keep the student engaged, focused, and motivated. Read More
Instruments: Voice Music
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
My methods are extremely varied and depend on the students wants and needs. I am trained in the Suzuki method as well as Paul Roland's approach to music education and am comfortable implementing both into my teaching along with various others. I do not, however, generally stick to just one method as I have observed it generally does not give the student a rounded musical education. I was the first musician in my family and I therefore know how intimidating it can be for families like mine that have a limited knowledge of the music world and the opportunities therein. Read More
Instruments: Drums Latin Percussion
I absolutely LOVE music!!! Let me say that first. I really enjoy playing, listening to, teaching, and learning about music. Most of my playing experience came from growing up in the church and playing in various school and extracurricular music groups. I currently play professionally but I enjoy giving back to students what others have given me over the years. I hope to do the same for my students. My favorite styles are rock, CCM, Contemporary Gospel, RB, Latin, and Pop/Electronica. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet Trombone
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Faber Piano Adventures, Standards of Excellence, and/or any beginning book the student will enjoy. For beginning adults, the Rubank Elementary Method books, the Older Beginner Piano Course by James Bastien, and/or any other books the student would enjoy. Along with those books of instruction, I would encourage students to learn level-appropriate solo repertoire. At the intermediate to advance level, I would encourage the Hanon Virtuoso Pianist book, the Sonata Album for the Piano from Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics, and the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet and for Trombone. Instruments: Guitar Drums Orchestral Percussion
Each student learns differently and I accommodate and tailor my lessons accordingly. Percussion beginners will build their foundation on the standard snare drum rudiments and Moeller technique. So will the professionals. Beginner guitar students will focus on tuning the instrument, basic chords, scales and playing techniques. Read More
