I have been playing the guitar for nearly 20 years, and have been performing live regularly for the past 10 years both as a solo acoustic act and as a member of various bands. Every student needs to be approached differently. I take every student at their pace knowing that students can be burned out if they progress too quickly or become bored if they arent challenged. Modern middle and high schoolers can be very busy and it is not productive to give them too much than they can handle. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson.
