My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Read More

I began teaching students while still in high school. I continued teaching students in college with the University of Texas String Project. Upon graduation, I taught programs in both public and private schools, while developing a studio of private students at our home. I have taught private students for most of the past 35 years, teaching all ages from 6 yrs. and up, beginning to advanced. I encourage regular practice for steady improvement and also instruct my students in how to practice in order to make the best progress. Read More

I like to divide my lessons into three different parts the first part would be a warm up in wish we get ready all the necessary muscles involved in playing the instrument with exercises that would develop dexterity and coordination simultaneously, the second part of how to listen is based on learning a basic piece of music that is guaranteed to develop the basic skills to perform something that they are interested on, on the cliff part of the lesson is to choose a song that the student wants to learn and analyze it apply what we learned by playing the basic peace and the warm ups. I allow students to work at their own pace while also setting realistic attainable goals. I want students to feel relaxed during their lessons so I try to establish an atmosphere that's both informal yet studious. One of my top priorities as a teacher is to understand what a student is most interested in and then focus our lessons on what they love. The best way to understand technique and theory is to apply it to something that you enjoy so I always try to attain this! Read More

Consistency and practice are the key to improvement but keeping the jams fun and exciting is what keeps the students coming back and practicing. I do have scales, chords, and basic melodies I believe every student should learn, but I like to learn each student's unique style and cater to it. Everyone has a different sound and inspiration. I feel part of my job is to help individuals find their voice in whatever instrument they're playing. Read More

I've taught people guitar and music related concepts for years, and I consider it an honor to be able to help people reach their musical goals. Whether it's just a few suggestions here and there, or full-on lessons, I always do my best to give advice that makes a positive difference. I make it a priority to try to relate what I'm teaching to whatever style the student wants to play in, and I explain how each concept will help the student progress. Read More

When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun! For adults, I like to analyze my student's musical interests and try to associate lessons in that style of repertoire. Read More
