I have a set of vocalises that I have comprised throughout the years. They begin with simple breathing exercises and hums to enable the student to connect to their breath, and move to more intricate scales and arpeggios to develop a strong, even tone. I choose repertoire that students truly enjoy to sing, as I have found that they will make great progress while practicing a song they love. For young children, I start with the use of their 10 fingers. We do finger exercises using Middle C as the center and exercise the fingers in up and down playing at the piano. I use the Faber method of study which is fantastic, is graded, introduces all kinds of pieces and a lot of theory. It is a very interesting course and my students do very well using it.
