I find that, especially for younger students, this is a great way to introduce beginner theory while learning to apply it to their playing. After this has been satisfied, I have the students blow using a breathing exercise. From this, I have the students play the first three notes out of their Habits of Good Musician Book 1. Finally, sitting for the first time at a drum kit in 2013, I discovered my true love for percussion. I began taking up to three lessons a week with a blast beat and heavy metal emphasis for the next year and a half.
