I focus on the sandwich method, which is one positive trait, something to work on, then another positive trait. Everyone is different, so their learning pace is different as well. I start beginners with the drum rudiments and chart reading. This gets them able to move their hands and feet for better coordination. After they have better coordination I introduce ear training which is playing along to their favorite songs. This teaches the student how toplay with a band.
