I grew up with a Pianist and Music Theory Professor as a mother; I learned to read music at the same time as I learned to read English. Music has never lost that early childhood sense of wonder for me, and so it's my primary goal to share that with others. More importantly, I want to help people of all ages develop their own musical voice and directive. So my teaching style is a combination of 2 things: Teaching a student how to practice (that is, improve their fundamental skill set towards mastery of an instrument) their instrument, and helping the student develop their musical identity and interests. Instruments: Drums
For beginning and intermediate students, I offer my own rudiment book to start learning on a practice pad or snare drum. For learning drum set, I use a variety of books and resources. I will meet and discuss these options with each student to find the right book for them. For more advanced students, I have them transcribe entire songs from bands they enjoy. I create Spotify playlists for students so they can easily access a variety of styles of music. Read More

Jaimes vocal instruction has an emphasis on the creative and critical pedagogical methods as she works to create spaces that nurture student agency, reflection, and critical thinking. She aims to create a space of welcome and safety while empowering student voices and student leadership. In one on one instruction, she teaches her students not only how to set goals and achieve them, but uncover the skills they need to develop in their musical pursuits, individually. Read More

I want my students to feel inspired and motivated, and feel comfortable progressing at their own pace. As a teacher and mentor, my priority is to help the student set and work towards their own goals. My teaching expertise is classical and musical theater, and I believe that students can be very successful branching out to different styles from this technical foundation. I encourage my students to learn music theory as well as vocal techniques to become well rounded musicians. Read More

For beginning students on brass instruments, we will send time getting the student to be comfortable holding and playing the instrument with a good, air driven sound. Once the student is able to reliably play their first notes in a rhythmic fashion, we can begin working on introducing music notation into the equation. Books I suggest will generally be books more specialized for each individual instrument, rather than method books used in band classrooms. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
I am someone who believes that nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! That's why it is so important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
