The main goal is not only to improve a student's musicality, but also to foster what make music interesting to them! With that in mind I start off by finding what path they would like to take (i.e. musical theater, jazz, a rounded approach, etc.) and try to build a plan that holds their interest while also gives them important lessons and building blocks that apply to various styles. I am in my mid 30s and have been playing guitar and singing since the age of 13. I have gotten my education in music through private lessons. Advancing my education at both Milwaukee Area Technical College (Associates Degree in Music Occupations) and Carroll University (Bachelors Degree in Music Business). I do not own a music studio. However, I offer my private guitar lessons where my students live. Is there a better environment learning music other than the comfort of their own home? Read More

If someone does a technique wrong for 7 months, it willprobleytake me 17 to fix it and break the habit. I use several books for my students but two of my favorites are both written by Louie Bellson. When it comes to music performance, self-confidence is an essential element to be a successful performer. Thus, I tend to focus on building my students’ confidence through performing activities, this makes performance a normal and familiar task for them. By doing this, the students will be more comfortable on stage and they will focus on improving the quality of their performance combined with building their own artistic personality rather than overthinking the stage experience. For beginning students, I usually start by creating a strong foundation in the student's mind of why they want to learn how to play an instrument and what goals, if any, they initially have for themselves. I then utilize this to help create individual based lesson plans that are driven by the inner workings of the student's mind. I incorporate music theory into every instrument at every skill level because I believe it to be something that is extremely important to understand and that not a lot of students are exposed to before they get to college. During my year at North Carolina School of the Arts, I studied under Kevin Lawrence, a prestigious student of Ivan Galamian. Under his guidance, I was first instructed in the Galamian method of violin playing, which is what I recommend first and foremost to students. In theory and playing across various string instruments, Galamian's methods developed violin playing in the twentieth century, which are what I continue forward, using new techniques and technology in the twenty-first. Instruments: Piano Voice
The most important goal I have in teaching voice and piano is to grow the student's love of music. I love customizing lessons to a student's abilities, interests, and learning style. I prioritize the student's enjoyment above all else, but students who make an effort to work and learn will always find their instrument to be more exciting and fun. For this reason, my lessons are always highly goal-oriented, regardless of how fun they are! Read More
