Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. For beginning students, I always start with technique and posture, as improper technique can be catastrophic to your playing down the line. From there we'll cover the basics, such as chord shapes, strumming patterns, and scales. On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. For all beginner students I like to start with Essential Elements 2000 for violin. I find it is a great way to introduce reading music notation for students who havent learned yet. Once the student has a good grasp on reading music and playing in upright position, I like to introduce introductory solo repertoire with Suzuki Violin School. My number one goal is to help my students accomplish their musical dreams, whether that be a classical pianist, a pop singer, the front person for a rock band, write songs or compose music for film, or just sing their favorite song of all time, whatever it takes, I will make sure that we get to the musical destination.
