I believe patience coupled with encouragement can be a recipe for success. When the student develops their own passion for music and their instrument their abilities tend to soar. I attempt to set realistic goals for the student but I am very adaptable and flexible. I still remember being able to strum my first song on the guitar. After that I was hooked! I believe in understanding the fundamentals and learning the technical aspects are important, however I have seen firsthand how enjoying music and the instrument and being able to play a song and not just a scale can lead to an increased desire to play and learn more. I began teaching privately in my sophomore year of high school. I had always known that I wanted to become a music teacher, but this is the time of my life when I really started discovering my potential in the education community. Students that I have worked with have achieved Superior Ratings in OMEA Solo and Ensemble events, have been part of various honor bands and extra-curricular groups. My goal is to get students to become independent in their musicianship, learn how music can effect everyday life, and how they can share the joy of music with others. Read More

Making music and playing your instrument easier is always my goal. Putting visualizations to certain sections of music to make the student more musical, or making a game out of the harder more technical sections is how to keep students interested longer. Of course, every student is different. Some need a firm nudge in the right direction, while others are so self-determined that all they really need to remember is how to make music enjoyable--and then they break through and can infinitely improve. I try to introduce my students to different styles and genres of music. Their repertoire ranges from dances and songs to variations, concertos and sonatas. In order to be able to play such an array of genres, one requires what I like to call a "laboratory of skills". Scales, exercises and studies, played at the beginning of every lesson, are a way to develop the said "laboratory".While working with little kids I try to combine traditional and Suzuki methods. In order to insure that my lessons are both educational and entertaining I make my little students move, dance, clap and sing. I'm a passionate soprano currently studying at The College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University. I graduated with my bachelors degree from Aurora University in May of 2015, and I just completed the first year of my masters degree. I am actively performing in the university's Opera Theatre productions and also was a member of The University Choral Society this past year. Next year, I will continue to be very involved in The College of Musical Arts. Read More

First and foremost, music is supposed to be fun. So I make sure we have fun during my lessons. Laughter is key. I also make sure that there is no pressure, but inspiration and motivation for the student to continue to practice and grow. I customize my lessons for individual students. Customized PDFs and lessons for each individual. No two students are alike. I have been told that my passion for music and the guitar are contagious and inspiring. Read More

I base my materials depending on who my student is, what level they are at, their interests, and their goals. We will focus on building a proper foundation and every aspect of music making including posture, embouchure, breath support, articulation, phrasing, intonation, performances, and more. Every student will have lessons directly tailored toward their needs. I usually begin with a methods book such as the Rubank Elementary Methods, scales, and a solo matching ability level. Read More
