To start, I like to get an idea of the skill level and music interests of the student by doing an introductory lesson. Then I teach music theory in a way that can be related to the style of music the student enjoys. I have created my own teaching method, which is taylored to each individual student. Several different books are used, depending on the style the student prefers. Read More

I have taught students individually and in sectionals and drumlines, allowing me to gain experience in the instruction of both classical and popular music styles. This has allowed me to hone my skills in integrating styles, as well as tailoring my instruction to the student's particular interests and needs.ter graduation, My greatest pleasure as an instructor is watching a student use the skills I have taught to develop his or her own unique "voice" and means of expression on the instrument, whether it be drumset, concert percussion, or piano. I teach musical skills through the use of contemporary music while enforcing traditional concepts. I love to share the joy of playing drums with students of any level or age! For beginning students who are children, I start with some simple rhythmic concepts and some easy sight reading. When they have established some fundamentals on the set, I can teach them how to play a song that they love or different grooves that they will enjoy playing. Read More

Do you know what's more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music? Nothing! Therefore, it is important that each and every student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps motivate and fuel desire to progress, practice and learn even more. By learning what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to his/her wants and needs. Read More

For beginning students that are children, I like to start with Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements or any other book that has the basic principles of music in them. Once the student has progressed and has a good grasp of the fundamentals, I will bring in other repertoire appropriate to their level. For adults, I like to find out what the student is interested in and then tailor the lesson toward that to keep lessons engaging and fun no matter what their abilities are. I always try to keep the lessons fun and entertaining. Read More

I have been teaching for over 15 years and I love watching students grow in their musical abilities. I get so excited when the passion comes out of them into their playing. I got my Bachelors in music performance on cello, but I started on piano and violin when I was six years old. I have performed all over Northeastern Ohio and it was a great experience being able to share the love of music with other people. Read More

After graduation, he attended the Armed Forces School of Music and served four years as a member of the prestigious 434th US Army Band. After his discharge in 1995, Matt moved to Akron, OH and began the real business of paying his dues in original bands, clubs, wedding bands, theaters, demo sessions, and countless one nighters. This was also the period when he began his career as a teacher, both privately and as an adjunct faculty member for the Tuscarawas Valley School District, where his students and ensembles were awarded the highest honors at the district and state level.
