I am a very enthusiastic instructor who loves to discover everyone's unique musical gifts. I recently received my Masters of Music in Vocal Pedagogy from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. A Nashville native, my performance experience is varied and includes professional opera roles, oratorio and early music performances, background vocal performances with pop and rock bands, and recording studio experience. I love performing with groups; some of my favorite memories are collaborative performances I have shared with other vocalists and instrumentalists. Read More

For beginning students, I usually start by creating a strong foundation in the student's mind of why they want to learn how to play an instrument and what goals, if any, they initially have for themselves. I then utilize this to help create individual based lesson plans that are driven by the inner workings of the student's mind. I incorporate music theory into every instrument at every skill level because I believe it to be something that is extremely important to understand and that not a lot of students are exposed to before they get to college. My teaching style reflects the fundamental idea that learning to play the violin is not a linear process. The bow hold is learned through a good bow stroke, and the bow stroke is learned through a good bow hold. Every element of playing the violin can be cast in a reciprocal relationship like this, and in reality it is even more complicated, as it is not simply two parts leaning off one another but all parts. Music lessons were one of my favorite activities growing up and continue to be for me as an adult. I want to give my students the same joy that I have for music, regardless of what their goals are. In the first lesson, I ask every new student what their goals area. That is how we start working together. For instance, if I know that a student is hoping to audition for a school production in a few months, I want to make sure that I include performance preparation in our lesson. Read More

By day, I am the high school and middle school Choral Director, General Music Teacher, and Voice Lesson Teacher at Mineral Point. I was an Adjunct Instructor of non-major voice lessons at NYU Steinhardt for three years, and an independent lesson teacher in the NYC metro area. I have had the opportunity to work for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (late-elementary, middle, and high school aged campers) in a variety of positions, including Voice Faculty, Choir Minor Teacher, Unit Director, and Counselor. I have been offering music education since 2009, where I have had the luxury to work, learn and play with students, other fellow musicians and experience music education in a variety of environments and platforms whether in person or via the internet. I am a self-taught musician, beginning at Edgewood College, where I served as the pianist in the Jazz Ensemble. After college, I had the opportunity to play professionally for several years; as the pianist in the Jeff Peronto Jazz Orchestra (Big Band) and also was the pianist for a period of time with Madison, WI Jazz Club "Cafe' Coda" owner, Hanah Jon Taylor in the Hanah Jon Taylor Artet (Jazz Combo). For beginners, I recommend the first two Suzuki books as they are a useful way of learning basic technique with a simple, song-by-song approach. For intermediate to advanced students, I utilize scales and etudes from Schradiek and Jacob Dont, and strongly recommend that they look into the six sonatas and partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach. It is absolutely important for a professional musician to have good technique, including intonation, extreme agility with the right hand, and good tone production overall, and these are the three things which my methods focus on primarily.
