I am a passionate instructor who enjoys working with students of all ages. I started performing, professionally, at a very young age, during my 6 years at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. From there, I attended the Louisiana State University, as a cello performance major and performed with the school symphony, as well as the Alexandria Symphony, the Lake Charles Symphony and local venues. Living in NYC I began performing live and became a studio session musician in the process  I developed songwriting and arranging skills as well as my own composing style. My experience goes back all the way to my college days at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. At Southwestern, I studied with Tim Pope, drummer for Ray Charles. After college, I had the opportunity to teach drums at Southwestern for 2 years as a adjunct faculty member. I then went on to teach at Fort Worth Christian School for 5 years and worked with all their students including their drum line. In teaching my students, I prefer to teach them to "play by ear", because when they learn chords and songs, they are usually able to play a snog by memory after hearing it a time or two. I not only show them the chords, fret board, how to hold the guitar properly, how to tune the guitar; etc. but, I also issue them handouts of guitar chord illustrations, fret board charts, and chord changes with words to songs for them to practice on between lessons. I started teaching private cello and piano lessons shortly thereafter and continued to do so through college. After graduation, teaching music truly became my passion. I've worked extensively with private students of all ages. I taught private lessons, group classes, and sectionals to students through several different school orchestra programs. Learning how to play the piano is about so much more than just the piano! The benefits reach far beyond music, helping them with school, self-confidence, and many other aspects in their everyday life. Although we do follow a method book for at least the first few years, we add additional solo music, and I let them choose from several level-appropriate pieces so that they are enjoying what they are learning.
