Instruments: Trumpet
I love teaching music. I love it for the way a high school student and a middle-aged stockbroker light up the same way as they learn how to play their favorite song for the first time, or hear Miles Davis playing the blues, and realize they have music in them too. I love it for the lessons it has given both me and my students about life its purpose, discipline, and its rules. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Bass Guitar Harp Keyboard Electric Guitar Classical Guitar Acoustic Guitar
My focus is on Technique, Warm ups, and Injury Prevention on each instrument. I like to give precise instructions on how to build up discipline and practice regimens. The key to mastering any instrument is consistency. I believe it's important to get to know each students interest and goals in order to create a customized plan. I try to make each lesson, fun and inspirational. Each person learns differently. This is known as "modality" Auditory By ear, or tonal instruction Kinesthetic By feel, learns from physically being shown, a hands-on learner Visual By sight, by fret board position memory and shape. Instruments: Voice
My private voice teacher in college was truly an inspiration and expanded my voice. He formed my philosophy that voice study should always begin with the natural voice. I begin with the voice my student has- this provides a healthy singing experience that will last a lifetime! I believe healthy singing should always be the basis instruction regardless of genre. The same concept applies to guitar instruction. Improper guitar technique can cause joint damage over time! Read More
Instruments: Guitar
My whole life I have played piano and later guitar until college. It ws a few years after i was married that i picked up guitar and with the help of a truly awesome teacher that my fever for playing returned. My teacher taught me many styles and always made sure that I progressedconsistantly. It is with that love and childlike drive that I learned from my teacher, that I carry on with today. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I use different methods according to the age, my main interest is to help the student love the music and the rest is just up to time and work. I work on having a natural and flexible posture that allows for easy playing. The violin/viola is hard enough already! So I try to make it as simple and strait forward as possible. We work also on music theory basics and ear training. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
My method makes understanding the breathing, support and execution of the voice the first priority. After this is achieved, exercises are assigned to further develop range, control, strength and vocal agility. The bottom line is that although it takes years to develop a strong, skillful and sensitive singer, it should not take years for a singer with good tutelage and a willingness to work hard, to sing competently. So without the ability of the student to make a good tone and control the voice, all the exercise cds and books are useless. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium French Horn Tuba
Every student requires a uniquely tailored teaching style, but also they possess a unique set of strengths and "weaknesses" that will be addressed. I do not believe in the "cookie-cutter" approach to teaching. I believe that fundamentals (scales, tuning exercises, lip slurs, technical excecises) are important as these are the key to unlocking the instrument as a means of self-expression, by eliminitating the infamilarity and oddness of the trombone. That being said, I believe that technique should be approached in the most musical way possible, and I strive to teach technique through actual music. My teachers, as were most successful brass players, were influenced by the legendary tubist of the Chicago Symphony, Arnold Jacobs. Read More
