For beginning students who are children, I typically start with teaching basic music theory, scales, and start with John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course for the piano students. For Cello beginning students, it's very important to have a correct playing position. Therefore, we will spend some time on knowing cello, position for both hands, and then we will start with Suzuki. In 1983, I attended The Guitar Institute of Technology and studied privately with Frank Gambale, who formalized the single line "sweep technique" on guitar. While in L.A. I also studied with Ed Mann, longtime Frank Zappa percussionist and teacher at Cal. Arts. I won a top prize at the Korea Clarinet Association Ensemble Competition which included a performance at the Seoul Art Center, a second prize at the National Music Competition by Busan Music Association of Education and was a winner of the school's annual concerto competition which included a performance as a soloist with Pusan National University Symphony Orchestra.
