Instruments: Piano
While in my formative years, I enjoyed weekly piano lessons with a woman that I've come to appreciate as my second mother. She has always encouraged my talent and made sure I was using proper form as often as possible, even when I adopted the hobby of transcribing popular music to the piano and playing from rote. She has truly helped me appreciate the nuance and freedom of piano, and I joined Musika to pass that along to even more students. Read More

My students describe me as passionate, creative, interesting, and fun! After getting my bachelor's degree in music education from University of Maryland, I taught general, band, and strings in Montgomery County in Maryland. Then I taught ukulele, keyboard, drums, guitar, band, and choir in Dayton, Ohio. Now I am excited to teach lessons in Pittsburgh. While my main instrument is saxophone, where I teach all levels, I love to teach beginners on a variety of instruments, from voice and piano to keyboard and djembe! Read More

I have been teaching bagpipes since 2017 and thoroughly enjoy passing along my knowledge to new eager students. I'm always looking for new ways to explain things and pass along information in different ways depending on a student's ability and aptitude. I enjoy meeting different types of students with varying experiences playing a musical instrument. As long as they are willing to work consistently, I will help them to be competent on the bagpipes. Im alway looking to bring on new students of all ages. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize to my students also gain passion for the instrument. Read More

My favorite quote is: "All students have gifts, they just open their presents have different times." I work with students where they are and at their pace. I start beginners with Essential Elements 2000 for Strings. As students progress I use Samuel Applebaum method books, traditional etudes like Wolfhardt and Sevick, Suzuki books and solo pieces as appropriate. I teach Traditional Classical string instruction. I will work to find pieces that students find interesting and keep my instruction engaging and fun for all of my students of all ages. Read More

Music is a general subject that everyone loves. The idea of being able to pass that on to others makes it even more worthwhile. The usage of positive reinforcement in my lessons allows students to learn more effectively and efficiently. Setting up micro goals that build up to larger ones has been successful in my classroom. Students I've taught have really enjoyed that because they can see their progress. I feel a sense of accomplishment with each little step towards a final goal. Read More

I find that we can get so caught up in getting the notes that we forget about important things like making sure we’re breathing normally and standing in a secure way. If a student has difficulty in a passage, I try to avoid statements like “you missed that note” and instead steer towards asking questions like “what would happen if you relaxed here?” Or “What does this passage remind you of?” I find that lessons centered around this teaching style are enjoyable for everyone and, even more importantly: they help students learn how to teach themselves how to practice.
