I cater my teaching to the students needs as an individual and their goals. I am interested in fostering their inate musical abilities, as well as the musical skills they wish to obtain. If the student is in a school instrumental program, I always defer to the band director as the student spends more time with them. I will take the students progress seriously, and expect them to do the same, so I make sure the expectation to practice is clear. Read More

For young children (3-9) I exclusively use the Suzuki method and require a lot of parental involvement. I am happy to start children ages 10+ as well as teenagers. Having been a product of a school orchestra myself, I will use a more traditional teaching approach. The adult beginner or adult returner presents unique challenges but I wholeheartedly believe its never too late to start playing an instrument. Scales and other technique builders are at the forefront of every players lesson. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I have been teaching for 3 years independently and through other academies throughout my 10 years of experience. My goal with teaching is to get people on a regular routine of practicing their instrument and help people find what they like in efforts to help them pursue it later in life while having fun in the process. Aside from teaching, My band Walking Down Main has played a significant amount of live shows that has helped me learn more about music as a whole and the things you can do to prepare for moments like these. I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with. First and foremost, music is supposed to be fun. So I make sure we have fun during my lessons. Laughter is key. I also make sure that there is no pressure, but inspiration and motivation for the student to continue to practice and grow. I customize my lessons for individual students. Customized PDFs and lessons for each individual. No two students are alike. I have been told that my passion for music and the guitar are contagious and inspiring. Read More

I create play-along videos, so that kids have something specific to practice at home. I use "Read this First" as a note reading book. Students play along with me and also by themselves at lessons. Eventually kids can gather together and play as a group if they wish to do so. I start with memorization, and easy ways of writing down the songs... and eventually kids will learn to read music, after they've secured a basic technique. Read More
