Instruments: Voice

I love to watch students grow through music! I love sharing my joy of song through teaching voice. In 2009 I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Music. Through my college experience, I have had the opportunity to sing all over the world. I have continued to perform in the Detroit area and recently moved near Ann Arbor, where I hope to continue sharing my love for music! Read More

Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet Drums

I am a firm believer in showing rather than telling. I always have at least one type of saxophone with me during lessons if not more. For example, if I have a student who is taking baritone saxophone lessons, then I will have a baritone saxophone with me. My goal is not to play along with the student during these lessons; rather it is simply there if I need to demonstrate a key concept to my student. Read More

I create play-along videos, so that kids have something specific to practice at home. I use "Read this First" as a note reading book. Students play along with me and also by themselves at lessons. Eventually kids can gather together and play as a group if they wish to do so. I start with memorization, and easy ways of writing down the songs... and eventually kids will learn to read music, after they've secured a basic technique. Read More

Instruments: Drums

I have three main books I use; these are my drum 'bibles'. Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence, and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin. I like to teach fundamentals first, providing a strong basis with which to expand your repetoire. Then I like to emphasize song work. The best part of drumming in my opinion is playing with other instruments, and in addition to playing with recorded music, I encourage my students to find other musicians to practice and even perform with. Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet

I am a friendly, calm teacher which is my style. I motivate my students a lot but do it in a positive way. All my students understand that they ultimately decide whether not they will have success or not, no one else. It is my job to guide you and to give you advice, but in the end the student must be the one who does the work. Students who think in this way usually do have the most success. Read More

Instruments: Trombone

I'm a trombonist in my last semester of my Master's degree in performance and chamber music at the University of Michigan, and am so excited to share my knowledge with students of any age. I believe that music should evoke strong feelings in both the performer as well as the audience members, so my teaching approach aims to foster musicality and the love of music in all forms. I've worked on and performed just about every style of music under the sun that trombones are utilized in so I am adaptable to whatever kind of music students want to work on, not just strictly classical. Instruments: Piano Voice

I love to see my students enjoy learning music and gain confidence as they realize their musical potential. This can only be accomplished in a safe and healthy environment where my students are able to express themselves without fear of rejection or judgement. At the first voice lesson, I have my students list their musical goals and what they hope to achieve. Through positive affirmation, I am able to help them reach their goals and develop a passion for music. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
